Nowadays, men can be prosecuted for failing to fulfill their responsibilities as fathers. The law favors single mothers who work alone to support their children even when they have no partner in life. Such was the bitter experience of a single mom.
Recently, Claire Khis Sunio’s post about the father of the child she is carrying went viral on social media. The single mom detailed his left her son. According to it, he does not spend even a single cent for their one-year-old child.
“Hindi pwedeng tumahimik lang ako! Nasa batas ng Pinas ang hindi pagsusustento ng sariling tatay sa sarili niyang anak. Wala akong pake kung ano sasabihin niyo sa akin dahil nanay ako! Wilfer Gutierrez, sobrang tagal ko nagtitimpi sayo, punong puno na ko! Kelan ka magkakaroon ng konsensya sa pagkatao mo?”
Wilfer’s mother sends money, but it was only P1,500 per month. Claire insists this is not enough especially since their child is still breastfeeding. Meanwhile, Wilfer is just having fun with his new girlfriend who is also pregnant.
“Eh di kawawa na kung kawawa. Pera lang ba gusto mo? Bakit ka sakin nagrereklamo, ako ba nagpapadala? Diba sinabi ko sayo napag-usapan naman na to na hindi pa nga stable work ko. Kita mong may pandemic pa, di mo ba naiintindihan yon?”
What is even more painful is that even a little love and support their child does not receive from his father.
According to Claire, her son’s birthday has passed but she has not received a single greeting from Wilfer. Even when their child got sick he could not remember to greet his son.
